Clutch replacement

Clutch slipping? Hard to get in gear?

Service Description

The clutch enables the engine to be disconnected from the gearbox so power can be removed, and gears changed. The clutch friction plate is permanently connected to the gearbox via a central shaft and sandwiched between the flywheel (on the engine side) and the clutch cover. The clutch cover contains sprung levers which at rest compress the friction plate between the flywheel and the clutch cover, driving the gearbox through the shaft. These sprung levers are pressed upon by the clutch slave cylinder or clutch lever. As a clutch is used, the friction material slowly wears away (in a similar way to brake pads) during the short time the friction plate is slipping as the clutch is engaged or disengaged, thinning the friction plate in the process. When this wear passes a certain point the friction plate no longer fully grips the flywheel and cover plate, preventing the engine from driving the gearbox normally if at all. Clutch replacement requires the separation of engine and gearbox so only components that meet or exceed the manufacturers specifications are used. If the system is hydraulic and has a slave cylinder, this will also be replaced as it is usually contained over the shaft, between the engine and gearbox. If you have issues with your vehicles clutch or gearbox, book an appointment and let our engineers keep your vehicle reliable and easy to drive.
